GUYS, I NEED YOU !
Do you know a shampoo/conditioner that doesn’t make your hair waxy or greasy after one day ? My hair is dry but either the products don’t moisturize enough or they moisturize too much or they just stop working, it’s so annoying… I’m still looking for my holy grail. I have medium-long hair, it’s very thick and has a lot of volume. Rather dry - I use my flat iron 5 days a week I would say.
Should I try a no sulfate shampoo ?
What I’m using right now :
- Innovation Blue Shampoo
- Matrix Biolage Color Endure Conditioner
- Vidal Sassoon Repair Mask
Here’s a list of products I have already tried :
- Joico Color Endure shampoo (too moisturizing, made my hair waxy)
- Mane ‘n Tail Deep Moisturizing shampoo (never again, my hair felt like straw)
- Suave Tropical Coconut shampoo + conditioner (Ok, I guess)
- Matrix Sleek Look conditioner (nothing special)
- Clairol Shimmer Lights Blue Shampoo (was drying)
- Vive Pro Color Radiance shampoo + conditioner + mask (did nothing for my hair, except for the mask, it’s quite good)
- Vive Pro Nutri-Shimmer (Was ok)
- Aussie Cleanse & Mend Shampoo (really helped me out for a while, but I’m striving for more !)
In the past years, I have also tried John Frieda Frizz Ease, Tressemmé and Pantene. Garnier Fructis & Herbal Essences are a big no-no for me.
CAN YOU SUGGEST ME SOMETHING ? WHAT ARE YOU USING ?
Don’t know why I wanted to do this but hey here it is! I have very thick dirty blonde hair with lighter highlights. My goal is to get my natural hair color back so that’s why I’m growing my hair out (also because I want longer hair, who doesn’t!)
I always use a blue shampoo (also called silver shampoo). I want to keep my blonde highlights in the best shape they can be since I am NOT gonna get touch-ups. Blue shampoo is perfect to protect your hair from getting brassy. It works on natural, highlighted and colored hair. The brand I use is a canadian brand called Innovation but you can use Aveda or Clairol’s Shimmer Lights. I leave it for 2-3 minutes (shave your legs while you’re at it!) and use my hands to remove most of the shampoo and then I use a comb to make sure there’s nothing left.
My second step is conditioner (of course), I use Matrix/Biolage’s Colortherapie. I put most of it on my ends and then I dab a little bit on my roots. I leave it for 1-2 minutes and then rinse and comb.
Last step is a protecting mask from L’Oreal Color Radiance. Leave it for 1 minute, maximum. I don’t put much (a little on the roots, more on the ends once again), I only use it to reinforce my conditioner (and it works!).
Once every two weeks, I make myself a good DIY hair mask because my hair tends to get dry because of my styling tools. This is a miracle for my hair, trust me. I mix two eggs with 4 tablespoons of olive oil. It’s super cheap and you don’t even need to own a mixer ! Your ends will be smooth (as if you just had a haircut) and your hair will be sooo soft (even if you have thick hair!) with NO flyaways or hair damage (or at least a lot less). Do it a least two times a month to keep hair healthy.
What products/brands do you use & love ? :)
Dang my hair is so soft. Soft like um Paul McCartney’s baby face ? Thank you diy hair mask.
Lol seriously after stepping out of the shower after the homemade mask, my damp hair felt really heavy and weird so I was absolutely certain that, like many other things I’ve tried in the past, it would not work. But IT DID reeeeaaaaaally I can’t believe it, my hair is restored and soft !! Here’s the recipe for anyone who would like to try.
Banana avocado mask
- 1 medium banana
- 1 egg
- ½ avocado
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 3 Tbsp Buttermilk (But I used regular milk tbh lol)
So I really want to try a DIY natural hair mask (think avocado, honey, olive oil, etc.) because my hair is really really thick, I have to straighten it almost every day and it’s colored but I’m scaaared that I’ll end up with banana chunks in my hair tomorrow at uni and I cannot afford to look like this lol
