One of my guy friends (while looking at this blog) : Why did you take a pic of yourself ? Did you change your hair ? Because normally girls only take selfies when they change their hair, right ?

HAIR CARE
Don’t know why I wanted to do this but hey here it is! I have very thick dirty blonde hair with lighter highlights. My goal is to get my natural hair color back so that’s why I’m growing my hair out (also because I want longer hair, who doesn’t!)
I always use a blue shampoo (also called silver shampoo). I want to keep my blonde highlights in the best shape they can be since I am NOT gonna get touch-ups. Blue shampoo is perfect to protect your hair from getting brassy. It works on natural, highlighted and colored hair. The brand I use is a canadian brand called Innovation but you can use Aveda or Clairol’s Shimmer Lights. I leave it for 2-3 minutes (shave your legs while you’re at it!) and use my hands to remove most of the shampoo and then I use a comb to make sure there’s nothing left.
My second step is conditioner (of course), I use Matrix/Biolage’s Colortherapie. I put most of it on my ends and then I dab a little bit on my roots. I leave it for 1-2 minutes and then rinse and comb.
Last step is a protecting mask from L’Oreal Color Radiance. Leave it for 1 minute, maximum. I don’t put much (a little on the roots, more on the ends once again), I only use it to reinforce my conditioner (and it works!).
Once every two weeks, I make myself a good DIY hair mask because my hair tends to get dry because of my styling tools. This is a miracle for my hair, trust me. I mix two eggs with 4 tablespoons of olive oil. It’s super cheap and you don’t even need to own a mixer ! Your ends will be smooth (as if you just had a haircut) and your hair will be sooo soft (even if you have thick hair!) with NO flyaways or hair damage (or at least a lot less). Do it a least two times a month to keep hair healthy.

LESLIE CAVENDISH - THE BEATLES’ HAIRDRESSER FROM 1967-1975

My boss was Roger, who I met whilst working at the salon and who was Vidal Sassoon’s right hand man. He used to do Jane Asher’s hair. I had the honor of washing and blow drying her hair. That in itself took over an hour but she had lovely long red hair, a real pleasure to work with. One Saturday morning Jane came into the salon but Roger was not available. Jane asked if I could cut her boyfriend’s hair. Now, I am a Beatles fan so I knew she was referring to Paul McCartney.

I arrived at Cavendish Avenue that evening and I recall lots of girls outside the house. Paul McCartney answered the door and was very nice to the fans, posing for photos and signing autographs. Inside, Paul greeted me with: ”Come and cut my barnet” (cockney rhyming slang for ‘hair’). I went to his bedroom to set up and washed Paul’s hair in the sink. I trimmed his hair and then Paul invited me back downstairs to listen to some music. Paul played me some rough tracks that I realized later was some of the music they recorded for Magical Mystery Tour. […]
Linda wasn’t a true blonde. She had a lot of red in her hair. Linda was always there supporting Paul and she got him through his depression over the breakup of the Beatles. She also brought her family in to help him with various matters. I would ring up when I was going to be in the neighborhood to watch a cricket match at Lord’s. I had a spaniel named Ernie at the time and he used to hang out with Paul’s dog Martha. They became best friends. I was still cutting John and George’s hair. I only occasionally worked on Ringo’s hair because he was married to a former hairdresser [Maureenand so didn’t need me so much. (READ THE REST)

Thumbs up for Leslie Cavendish [The Beatles’ hairdresser from 1967-1975] as he cuts George’s hair at Apple Hairdressing in the King’s Road. It was a nice little salon run by Leslie, but after it was discovered by fans he would pop into our offices and we’d all line up for a trim. I wish I’d photographed that !

I think Cyn’s 1965 hair will be my new hair length goal. Plus it seems quite thick, just like mine. My last length cut (compared to a regular, maintaining cut to make it less thick) was in May 2012.

Lol seriously after stepping out of the shower after the homemade mask, my damp hair felt really heavy and weird so I was absolutely certain that, like many other things I’ve tried in the past, it would not work. But IT DID reeeeaaaaaally I can’t believe it, my hair is restored and soft !! Here’s the recipe for anyone who would like to try.

Banana avocado mask

- 1 medium banana

- 1 egg

½ avocado

- 2 Tbsp honey

- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

- 3 Tbsp Buttermilk (But I used regular milk tbh lol)

Directions:

  1. Mash banana, egg and avocado in a small bowl with a mixer until it’s almost liquid.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and stir until well combined.
  3. Apply to hair from roots to tips (+ put on a shower cap afterwards)
  4. Leave in for 30 minutes and then wash out with a moisturizing shampoo + conditioner
  5. Double the recipe for long hair.
  6. Use twice a month to maintain healthy hair.

So I really want to try a DIY natural hair mask (think avocado, honey, olive oil, etc.) because my hair is really really thick, I have to straighten it almost every day and it’s colored but I’m scaaared that I’ll end up with banana chunks in my hair tomorrow at uni and I cannot afford to look like this lol
